Acme Oyster House

Any restaurant called "oyster house" is fine by me.  Several people recommended Acme.  Despite it being "touristy," they all assured me that it was really top notch (and inexpensive).  It's a Louisiana chain, and we ended up trying the one in Baton Rouge - where our waiter, it turns out, had just moved home to Baton Rouge from Bushwick!

We'd already had a very early dinner - completely fresh-picked from Taylor's uncle's garden - so we did a sampling of smaller items. We started with char-grilled oysters, which came doused in garlic butter and topped with French bread. We had to get oysters, right?  Not hard for us.

Next we were up for a trifecta of fried.  I love sweet potatoes fries, so when they are on the menu, it's pretty much a given that they'll soon be on the table.

They did them riiiight here.  To accompany these sweets, we went for the fried crawfish tails - since they are in season now, the restarants are really pushing them - and they are, relatively speaking, quite large.

They were served with Acme's version of remoulade, which was a spicy rendition.  Heavy on the stone ground mustard, it was a great dipper for the tails. We also went for the fried crab claws came with a spicy cocktail sauce.  We liked that it came spicy and we were instructed tableside that if we wanted it less spicy, we'd need to water it down with lemon juice and ketchup.  Nice; start it out right.

We got our dessert to-go.  We had our Brooklyn waitress surprise us and when we got back to our hotel were very happy to discover this chocolate caramel slice of pie.

A decadent ending to a decadent meal.
