Barnyard on C

A few years ago, a friend of mine living on Avenue D spotted a few roaming chickens in an empty lot.  So, when a few other East Village buddies of mine mentioned the Barnyard on C a while back, I assumed that the chickens had returned.  Luckily I was wrong.  There is a charming, Marlow&Daughters-ish storefront above 9th Street offering up delicious sandwiches and an excellent assortment of all the food intellegentsia staples: boutique chocolate, artisan pastas, rillettes, duck prosciutto and a few other sundries that are popping up in places like the Brooklyn Flea.  Cheese is their main attraction but to get the full experience from Barnyard, I suggest going in the morning for a breakfast sandwich made before your eyes.[gallery link="file" columns="2"]
